Tulips in Yokohama

Image
This weekend we took a little day trip to Yokohama. There is a park next to Yokohama Stadium with beautiful tulip fields. Very enjoyable, even in the rain! After we visited the park we walked to Chinatown and had lunch. The streets were just a sea of umbrellas! Scallops in House sauce, Mapo tofu, and pork fried noodles - delish!!

Spring in Japan

Image
Each year as the trees begin to bud out everyone in Japan gets excited for Sakura Season! I just wanted to share a few pics from some walks I have taken around Zama this week.  This Saturday, March 25th, Camp Zama is hosting its Sakura Festival. The base will be open to all community members and hopefully the trees here on Camp Zama will be in full bloom. As of today we are seeing the very beginning of the bloom. By Saturday it should be lovely. So, that means more pictures to follow these!

Enoshima Spring Festival

Image
We attended the Enoshima Spring Festival this weekend. It began with a Samurai parade along the beach. Then a ceremony at a Shrine built on the beach just for the Festival. And for the finale, 5 warriors on horseback galloped down the beach shooting arrows at 3 targets along the way.(video at the end) It was awesome! Unfortunately we had the changing tent right in front of the target by where we were sitting. But you get the idea. Our friend Chad stopped to get his picture taken with some of the participants.
